This is a case of an 18 year old male who sustained a penetrating trauma resulting in a globe rupture of his right eye with expulsion of the crystalline lens, large corneal laceration and 90% loss of iris tissue.
The patient was aphakic as a result of the trauma with significant iris defects, fibrosis and necrosis of the residual iris as well as corneal scarring.
10 months after his globe rupture repair the patient underwent a secondary IOL placement with a Zeiss CT Lucia 602 3-piece lens using the Yamane technique as well as a Customflex artificial iris secured with Gortex suture.
The patient’s uncorrected vision is now 20/30+2. His sensory exotropia and difficulty with depth perception have now resolved and he was able to pass a driving test just two weeks after surgery!
