Robert A. Beaulieu, MD

Dr. Beaulieu is a board-certified ophthalmologist and completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, one of the largest and busiest training programs in the country. Following residency, he completed a two-year fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) through the Kresge Eye Institute and William Beaumont Hospital under the guidance of Drs. Evan Black and Frank Nesi. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Wright State University School of Medicine, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. Dr. Beaulieu is a Fulbright Fellow and conducted post-graduate research in Spain from 2008-2010.

Dr. Beaulieu specializes in disorders of the eyelids, orbit, and surrounding facial structures. He has a special interest in correcting upper and lower eyelid malposition (ptosis, ectropion, entropion, and retraction), eyelid and facial reconstruction from tumors or trauma, and cosmetic and rejuvenation procedures including lower lid bags, forehead lifts, midface lifts, and non-surgical techniques like Botox, filler, and laser skin resurfacing. His research interests include the relationship between eyelid and eyebrow position with various eyelid and facial disorders, and periocular reconstruction after trauma and burns. Dr. Beaulieu has authored multiple publications in the field of oculoplastic surgery and has delivered presentations at local, state, national, and international conferences. Dr. Beaulieu is also active in teaching and mentoring medical students, ophthalmology residents, and ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery fellows. He is an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at both Wayne State University and Oakland University.  

Dr. Beaulieu is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He was named a Rising Star in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2020.

Dr. Beaulieu grew up in Dayton, Ohio. He lives in Huntington Woods, MI but loves spending time in the Traverse City area with his wife and two children. He enjoys playing tennis, cooking, gardening, hiking, and learning new activities with his family. Despite being a Buckeye, he now considers Michigan home.
